Rame Projects is a contemporary arts project space in South East Cornwall. After working in a large studio space in a Napoleonic Barracks Block on a cliff top during my PhD, I began to invite artists in for short research residencies. I then teamed up with friend and curator Lucy Stella Elmes to formalise a test programme and to begin fundraising. Since 2019, we have been operating as an artist-led Community Interest Company dedicated to testing out new ideas. We work with local and national artists at all stages of their careers, and with community groups in the Rame Peninsula, South East Cornwall and Plymouth. All our projects are deeply rooted in place and respond to contemporary and historic themes.
We give artists space to make work with a focus on research and development; experimentation, play, respite and retreat. We often collaborate with other community serving organisations; working with communities to explore things that matter to them. Our work focuses on imagining a hopeful future.
We have worked with the following artists: Natalie Raven, Rosie King, Huhtamaki Wab, Georgia Gendall, Sam Machell, Levack and Lewandowski, Molly Erin McCarthy, Liza Dickson, Carmen Wong, Ufuoma Essi, Still/ Moving, Laura Phillips and Bryony Gillard, Carly Seller, Oliver Sutherland, Zethu Maseko, Robin James Sullivan.
We have worked with many local community groups including: Arts University Plymouth, Rame Conservation Trust, Fourlanesend Primary School, St Stephens Primary School, Torpoint Community College, Torpoint Family Hub, Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality Council, Screen Cornwall, Take A Part, University of Plymouth.
We have received support and funding from: Cultivator Cornwall, The Box Plymouth, Feast Cornwall, HeadStart Kernow, Arts Council England, National Lottery Community Fund, and National Lottery Heritage Fund.
