Rekall is a site-responsive performance, restaging scenes from the 1990 movie Total Recall (released in Mexico as El Vengador del Futuro). Working with actress Ximena Sordo (trained at Televisa's acting college CEA), Rekall reenacts scenes featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger in locations used in the film: the metro stations Chabacano and Insurgentes and the surrounding Glorieta De Los Insurgentes shopping complex. Rekall explores gender norms in American sci fi films and Mexican telenovelas, and how Mexican brutalist architecture is coded as ‘dystopian’ through a Hollywood lens.
